Ballerina, RN, long distance runner, traveler, yogi and recovering from an achilles rupture tear. This is my story and I'm taking the non-surgical route. I'm sharing my journey since there aren't many of us out there who have taken the "conservative" option.

The Big Stretch
I went to my last cast change today and took a strong perc to get me through it. I'm still a little drugged up but I feel no pain! My leg is a sad state...see below...
Had the same injury (arena football) back in '02 and took the non-surgical approach as well. 3/4 of my achilles was actually torn so I thought it was the best option. Needless to same, the injury pretty much ended my professional playing career. However, I was able to resume other activities such as running, basketball, and I have play flag football. Although it was very cautiously lol. When I run, I try and do so with shoes that are really comfortable on my feet. I've been working out in the NIKE FREE. Just based from my experience in athletics especially running; I think u have to switch ur shoes every 6 months or until they wear out if you're a serious running. Just from the simple fact that wornout shoes can cause additional foot problems and it's not good for a recovery achilles (2 say the least).
At any rate, how did u manage to tear ur achilles? I must say, u and I are very rare. Did u have a complete rupture? 90-95% complete ruptures are usually surgically repaired. Are u back on ur feet yet or non-weightbearing?
