THE BOOT

I had my final cast removed today!  We were at the doctors forever but in the end they put on a walking boot.  They joked around with me for a bit saying they didn't know how many weeks it had been and if I was ready for the boot.  Funny doctors who understand my personality.  The casting tech put on my boot and told me to take a couple steps.  I was so scared!  But I did it and Ty took a video on his phone.  The med student working with the doctor told me I should incorporated my walking boot into my Halloween costume.  I told her I had planned to.  I was going to be a drunk drivers victim.  I also asked the male casting tech if I could wear skinny jeans under the boot.  He didn't know what skinny jeans were so the med student and I explained it to him.  He figured it was OK!  But all other looser pants go over top.  They don't want my leg moving in the boot.  I immediately came home and took off the boot off to wash and shave my leg.  My leg hair was super long so I went through two razors and it took about 20 minutes.  Then I took a towel to my leg and I think at least five layers of skin came off on the towel.  I put on half a bottle of moisturizer and put my boot back on to walk around the house.  I have to wear another shoe on my foot to even out my hips.  Since the boot goes outside and inside I wash it off every time I enter the house.  I hate dirt.  Here are pictures from the day!

 Tyler's or Debi's?!?!

 EWWWW

 The boring waiting room

Mom is just about to pick me up and take me to Leigh my physio who will be my best friend for the next 4 months.  It will be painful but good for the foot.  Mom and I are then going shopping at Dixie Value Mall!

Birthday

For my 29th birthday Ty took the day off so I didn't have to stay home alone with my blue cast.  That is what I've been doing for the last 7 weeks of my life.  Here are some pictures from the day!

The Big Stretch

I went to my last cast change today and took a strong perc to get me through it.  I'm still a little drugged up but I feel no pain!  My leg is a sad state...see below...

The Ring

Roxy dropped it off today!  It is done, FINALLY DONE!

Tomorrow is the last cast change and big stretch appointment.  I will let you know how it goes...

Wedding

On Sunday Ty and I were invited to Adriane and Jermey's wedding at the Rosewater Supper Club.  It was a beautiful wedding.  It was cocktail style so a bit difficult as most of the time I was sitting and people were standing so my neck was a bit sore from looking up.  I got special VIP treatment with all the seniors to take the secret jail like elevator to go between floors.  I also got some great comments on my matching cast and dress!

Cast Pedicure

For my birthday Jen Kitchen took to get a pedicure and manicure with her.  I got some strange looks going in but they did a little pedi to match my cast.

Lunch with Mom

I took mom to her colonoscopy appointment.  She had a rough go with the prep stuff so she felt at ease with a family member there.  But I wasn't sure who was taking care of who.  To thank me mom took me out to lunch at Wabora on Bathurst.  It was delicious!!!

My First Fall

I have been taking a nursing course on Monday nights to help pass the time and add to my nursing certification.  Ty couldn't drive me this past Monday so for the first time I attempted the TTC alone.  It was the King Street car to Jarvis.  It was raining but Niagara and King now has a bus shelter so it was all good.  The streetcar was stopping at Church due to track work so I had to get off early.  After 2 and a half blocks on the crutches I made it into George Brown school and wiped out.  Both my crutches slipped from under me and down I went on my knees and then face.  I was quick enough not to fall on my bad leg.  But did it hurt.  People came to help which was super nice.

A Weekend Away

For our second anniversary I surprised Ty on a trip to Tobermory.  He had no idea where he was driving.  It is 4 hours away so it was a long trip for just a weekend.  But the perfect thing for me.  I sat in the back seat (its more comfortable) and Ty drove.  We checked in to our cute B&B and had a long nap.  I told him the trip was going to be slow paced and like we are senior citizens.  After our nap we headed to the lake to hang out and watch the sun set.  Then we had dinner at a local restaurant and it was delicious.  We went back to the B&B for wine and sleep.  The next day was beautiful so we headed on the boat to see the islands.  And then we made the long drive home.  Ty loves those kinds of vacation.  Slow paced and relaxing.  Since Japan is postponed and I can't walk we are thinking of booking a slow paced trip to Vermont.  Rent an apartment for the week and relax.  He'll need that vacation cause next year we will be going on two big adventures: Japan and hopefully Chile/Argentina!!!
